How can we meet our commitment to delivering maximum value to the customer? Is Agile even possible with no face-to-face team meetings?  How can we collaborate effectively when not colocated?

In fact, collaboration tools like Zoom allow for a remarkable amount of team interaction, and Agile practitioners have developed a substantial body of knowledge about how to work, facilitate, teach, and coach when everyone is in a different location.

In this session, you will learn how to facilitate awesome meetings and great classes with Zoom. The topics will range from basic mechanics (how to create meetings and share screens) to group dynamics (how to encourage engagement and interaction). The discussion will also examine ways to manage Agile processes and teach and coach Agile organizations online. The session will be conducted online with Zoom (of course).

Teaching Agile So It Sticks https://agilenewengland.org/teaching-agile-so-it-sticks/ Fri, 03 May 2019 02:34:06 +0000 https://dev.agilenewengland.org/?p=8016 Delivering training is easy. But will they remember it next week? And will they still be doing it months from now? Chances are the answer is, “no.”

Most corporate training fails at its goal of effecting organizational change, and most training of any kind fails because of something called the Forgetting Curve. Without regular practice at new skills and concepts, people can’t remember what they learned in a class. It’s not their fault—it’s simply a human trait. So how do we facilitate effective learning? How can we support learners with effective courses, skills practice, and learning environments?

Lisa Sieverts and Richard Kasperowski created and teach Agile courses at Harvard University, and they teach, coach, and consult in industry. They share their experience in designing effective courses and co-creating excellent learning environments. They guide you through a series of fun activities to create your own Agile curriculum and learning modules. You’ll leave understanding how to design effective learning experiences and support your staff as they put their new Agile skills and knowledge into practice.

Who should attend? Leaders, coaches, Scrum Masters, trainers, team members, and anyone else who cares about sharing Agile mindset and practices to improve the way their organization works.

About the Speakers:

Lisa Sieverts owns Facilitated Change, an independent project management consulting company based in Harrisville, NH. She is credentialed as an Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP®) and a Project Management Professional (PMP®) by the Project Management Institute, a global leader in the development of standards for the practice of project management. Before launching her own company in 2003, she worked for Hewlett-Packard in California and Idaho. In addition to her consulting business, she currently teaches Agile Project Management for the Harvard Extension School in Cambridge, MA.

Culture for Great Teams and Results https://agilenewengland.org/culture-for-great-teams-and-results/ Thu, 03 Sep 2015 15:05:41 +0000 https://dev.agilenewengland.org/?p=8533 Core Protocols are behavior patterns for successful teams.

The Core Protocols are the work of Jim and Michele McCarthy. Over the last 20 years, the McCarthys studied hundreds of teams and thousands of students in a laboratory setting, giving each team a work assignment and deadline of one week to deliver a great product. The McCarthys observed the teams and factored out their success patterns. They encoded these success patterns–behavior patterns of successful teams—as 11 repeatable “protocols”, easy recipes that we can all follow, so we and our teams can reproducibly deliver great products on time every time.

In this presentation, Richard Kasperowski will introduce the Core Protocols. He will share the fundamentals of the Core Protocols and guide attendees through activities that help them learn and retain these same successful behavior patterns. You’ll leave with a better understanding of how to build a team that is in a state of shared vision and can deliver great products on time every time.

About the speaker:

Richard Kasperowski is a cofounder of the Greatness Guild and the author of The Core Protocols: A Guide to Greatness. He works as a Core Protocols trainer and coach, Agile trainer and coach, and Open Space facilitator. He teaches the class, Agile Software Development at Harvard University’s Extension School.
