But what does it mean for leaders to “be” Agile? This presentation will explore three levels of being agile based on Bill Joiner’s award-winning book, Leadership Agility. You’ll discover why sustainable leadership agility requires not only the adoption of an Agile mindset, but also the development of certain cognitive and emotional capacities.

You’ll find why the Expert level of agility drives managers into command-and-control, why progression to the Achiever level is fundamental for creating a more agile culture, and how the Catalyst level, practiced by only 10% of leaders, is needed to realize the full spirit of Agile.

Through a case-study using audio clips, Bill will guide you through the three levels, help you identify where you are, and clarify what it looks like to go to the next level. He will also share methods he uses to facilitate development of higher levels of agility in leaders, teams, and organizations.

Bringing Leadership Agility to Agile https://agilenewengland.org/bringing-leadership-agility-to-agile/ Fri, 08 Mar 2013 01:31:43 +0000 https://dev.agilenewengland.org/?p=10146 Agile can transform software development teams – and other kinds of teams – in amazing ways. As Agile has taken hold and proven its worth, people are seeing the need and opportunity for something more: The development of agile organizations. To do this, we need a new kind of “leadership culture” at the senior and middle management levels. What’s needed isn’t simply the application of Agile methods in management teams. We need leaders who have the capacity to think and act at higher levels of agility. In this presentation, Bill Joiner will introduce us to three “levels” of leadership agility that emerged from extensive research on the leadership needed in today’s highly complex, rapidly changing business environment. Going beyond previous conceptions of agile leadership, he will introduce us to the rarely practiced “Catalyst” level of leadership agility and how it can be applied to the larger challenges posed by today’s Agile initiatives.
